CAIRO: The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) approved on Monday amendments to the police law and referred the amended draft to the parliament to be debated and approved. SCAF has been Egypt's custodial government since the 2011 uprising that toppled Mubarak in the Arab Spring. Amendments include annulling military tribunals of policemen, modifying salaries regulations, approving career promotions for policemen and conscripts and introducing a new police rank. The parliament will review and debate the amendments within days to approve it, according to a statement to Bikyamasr.com from Egypt's State Information Service. On the other hand, a source in the Interior Ministry said that the ministry appreciates all sincere and positive efforts made by the police men who continued their work in the past period.
