CAIRO: Egypt's Foreign Minister Mohamed Amr phoned on Wednesday his Saudi counterpart, Saud al-Faisal, to discuss the developments of the case of Ahmed el-Gizawi, an Egyptian national held in Jeddah over alleged possession of drugs. During the conversation, Amr asked his Saudi counterpart to allow the Egyptian consul in Jeddah to visit Gizawi – and the Saudi minister agreed. In the same context, Foreign Ministry spokesman Amr Roshdi, said Egypt's embassy in Riyadh and the consulate in Jeddah are holding intensive contacts with Saudi authorities about the Egyptian lawyer's case, who was arrested upon arrival at Jeddah International Airport. Roshdi added that Egyptian consul Maher el-Mahdi met with Gizawi and provided legal assistance to him. There have been protests outside the Saudi embassy in Cairo, regarding the arrest.
