CAIRO: Egypt's Higher Presidential Elections Commission (HPEC) announced the final list of presidential candidates, including 13 names. The list was announced by HPEC chairman counselor Farouq Sultan at a press conference on Thursday, which was held at the headquarters of the Egypt's State Information Service (SIS). At the press conference, Sultan said that the HPEC had, “opened its doors for presidential candidates from March 10 to April 8.” During this period, it received the candidacy papers of 23 nominees, out of which 13 are now considered eligible to run in the presidential elections, he said. After scrutinizing the papers of all candidates, 10 were disqualified from the presidential polls as they did not meet one or more of the terms set by the HPEC, Sultan said. The candidates appealed their exclusion, Sultan said, adding that the HPEC rejected their appeals citing legal reasons. On Wednesday, Ahmed Shafiq was included again on the list after appealing an earlier the HPEC decision excluding him from running in election based on the recently-approved Political Isolation Law, also known as “Disenfranchisement law”, which strips top-level ex-regime officials of exercising political rights for 10 years. The list contains the names of 13 approved candidates, out of 23 who had initially applied to stand in the first presidential election to be held after the January 25th Revolution. The election is scheduled to be held on May 23-24. Here is the list of the candidates and their symbols: 1. Abul-Ezz el-Hariri (symbol: pyramid). 2. Mohamed Fawzi Eissa (symbol: video camera). 3.
