CAIRO: Revolutionary youth movements staged a sit-in Thursday in an anti-SCAF protest, obstructing traffic for over two hours on 6th of October Bridge. In anticipation to Friday's “self-determination” rally, members of the April 6 Youth Movement and other revolutionaries marched defiantly from Talaat Harb Square to 6th of October Bridge stage a peaceful sit-in. “Our revolution is taking some steps back, we are losing the main principles we fought for. We demand to bring these back!” uttered a protester in the midst of the march. “The Salafists and the Muslim Brotherhood betrayed us and sold all the principles of the revolution. Any elections under SCAF's control will be fraudulent. The elections are just a game, one big game!” he added. “There is no change, nothing has changed. The Egyptian people need to wake up and realize that the revolution is in danger, it's being stolen from us,” said a member of the revolutionary Kaffiyeh movement. Thursday's sit-in marked a break from the traditional public space of dissent, Tahrir Square, in an attempt to send a direct and confrontational message of revolutionary revival. “I support the revolution but if you have an opinion to express, you can go to Tahrir Square. What they are doing here now is wrong. They are wasting my time and those of others,” said a businessman unable to continue his commute due to the sit-in. One hour into the sit-in, the situation briefly escalated as infuriated bystanders threw bottles at protesters from underneath the bridge. The sit-in carried on peacefully for the remainder of the time. “Freedom, Freedom, Freedom!” “Down with the military rule”, and “No constitution under military rule and the remnants of the old regime!” were amongst the revolutionary slogans widely chanted by a mixed crowd of young and elderly, male and female Egyptians. When protesters slowly dispersed and lost control over the sit-in, cars managed to break the human shields thereby ending the defying two-hour roadblock. Simultaneously, Islamists gathered on Tahrir Square Thursday evening in protest to the recent disqualification of their Presidential hopefuls.
