NAIROBI: Dr. Ignace Gatare, Director General for the Commission for Science and Technology in the President's office handed over the ICT portfolio to Jean Nsengimana, the new Rwandan ICT Minister. This follows a strategic move by the president to fuse the two ministries (Youth and ICT) because both sectors are the backbone for the country's economic growth. He also added that youth are the engine for growths in a country thus this will better develop the economic, individual and social spheres for development in Rwanda. In addition to that, science and technology can transform societies to greater heights. “Youth are the engine of the ICT growth in any country, which means that these two connect better for economic and social development” said Jean Philbert Nsengimana after taking over the office. He added that the ministry will continue focussing on promoting ICT driven initiatives and policies that tackle concerns and priorities of the youth in Rwanda. He added that he will continue to work with other ministries to ensure that technology is fully exploited for economic improvements. “I will continue to work together with the ministry and other relevant institutions to ensure that science and technology is fully exploited for the development of our country,” he said.
