NAIROBI: The inaugural Cloud Summit East Africa, proudly supported by the Kenya ICT Board, will be held in Nairobi from 5th to 6th June 2012. The 2-day invitation-only event is hosted by Kinetic-events, an international business-to-business conferencing company. The Summit is aimed at IT professionals, senior decision makers and cloud computing experts with a focus on how cloud computing is reforming the IT market place. Some of the topics under discussion are how companies can take advantage of cloud computing, strategizing, designing and building of cloud(s), deployment of cloud(s) and most of all the need for cloud security. The summit will allow industry experts to engage, collaborate and develop new strategies, unlocking potential avenues for cost reduction, improved efficiency and innovation. Some key leaders involved include Kevin Kinyanjui, Information Systems Director and CIO of Kenya Airways, and Samuel Rutto, CIO of Globe Track International Kenya. Shannon Mackrill, Joint MD of Kinetic Events added, “Cloud computing in East Africa is still in its infancy; however a thirst for knowledge, development and innovation is clearly imminent within Kenya. The need to explore moving from a virtualized environment to a fully operational cloud environment has reached fever pitch in East Africa with recently increased broadband speed and efficient connectivity. The cloud offering will truly forge Kenya and East Africa as a giant in an ever developing mobile world – all that is needed is the correct solution set and innovative providers to effectively launch cloud within the Kenyan economy, while educating IT leaders about the advantages and pitfalls of moving to the cloud.”
