SANA'A: For the first time ever since President Ali Abdullah Saleh announced his departure from the presidency and the elections of Yemen's new strongman, President Abdu Rabbo Mansour Hadi, the capital was shaken on Sunday evening by a series of explosions, followed by a series of fierce gun fighting throughout several districts of the capital, Sana'a. Residents near Change Square, the main rallying point of the revolution told Bikyamasr.com that around 10:30 pm on Sunday a huge explosion was heard coming from rebel General Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar's military base, adding that thick black smoke soon covered the entire area. Mohsen who after three decades of loyalty towards the regime decided back in March last year to side with the revolutionaries and support their demands for a change in leadership was identified as a clear target of the remnants of the regime, when only days ago, Yehia Mohamed Saleh, Saleh's nephew and Head of the Central Security Forces announced on his Facebook page that he wanted to behead the General and his fellow Islah member Sheikh Abdel Mageed al-Zindani, a prominent cleric wanted by the US for terrorism charges. Although details of Sunday night's attack are still unclear on Monday, this act of violence came amidst reports that warring political factions were once again on the war path with armed militias being back in the streets of Sana'a and tribal fighters being embroiled in violent clashes against the Republican Guards some 40 kilometers north of the capital, near al-Sama'a military base.
