CAIRO: Egypt`s Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr signed an agreement with his South Korean counterpart, Kim Sung Hwang, for the establishment of a Joint Ministerial Committee between Egypt and South Korea, as part of his current visit to Seoul. The ministry said his visit was also “to discuss strengthening cooperation in the political, economic and technical fields through development projects implemented by the Korean Agency for International Cooperation in Egypt.” The spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Amr Roshdy said on Tuesday that the two ministers had held a session following the signing of the bilateral deal to discuss “a number of issues of mutual interest.” The minister discussed the Egyptian government as a “political roadmap through the transition phase” and his South Korean counterpart noted that his country “is following the situation in Egypt closely and observed the stability of the situation and Egypt's continuation in the the political process on a regular basis.” Amr also addressed during the talks the possibility of the Korean Agency for International Cooperation establishing a vocational training center in Egypt to “improve the level of graduates of technical education, granting them more opportunities in labor market, including Korean companies operating in Egypt.” Amr urged the Korean government to encourage the resumption and doubling of Korean tourism to Egypt, pointing to the “paramount importance of tourism to the Egyptian economy,” where the Korean Foreign Minister, agreed with Amr, stressing the Korean government's intention to “further encourage its citizens on tourism in Egypt.” It should be noted that trade exchange between Egypt and South Korea in 2011 amounted to about $3.2 billion, with an estimated investment of Korea in Egypt by about $200 million and that 25 South Korean companies are currently operating in Egypt.
