MUMBAI: An Indian woman from the outskirts of Delhi chopped off a man's penis when he attempted to sexually assault her, police reported on Sunday evening. According to the report, the 37-year-old widow from Bakhtawarpur, responded to the attempted assult by taking out a knife and chopping off her assailants penis. “The victim's husband passed away a few years ago and she's been a loner ever since. Used to mostly staying indoors, she claims the accused, Jeevat, barged into her house last evening and tried to rape her,” said a senior police officer, in comments published by Hindustani Times. The attacker reportedly entered her home and tried to assault her, but she fought back, and as the attacker went down in pain, the woman screamed for help. “Her neighbours rushed to the house and one of them informed us about the incident. Jeevat was rushed to the Maharaja Harishchandra hospital where his condition is stable, but doctors said that he had lost his penis,” the officer said. Sexual violence in India is on the rise, with nearly daily reports of assaults, rapes and harassment filling the country's newspapers.
