Sydney (dpa) – Australia's consumer watchdog Tuesday threatened legal action against Apple Inc for advertising its new iPad as being 4G capable, even though it is not compatible with Australia's 4G network. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) said it would apply to the Federal Court in Melbourne on Wednesday for orders against Apple Pty Limited and Apple Inc (Apple) for allegedly breaching consumer legislation. The third generation iPad cannot connect to the only 4G network in Australia, offered by Telstra Corp. It can only connect to Telstra's 3G system. “The ACCC alleges that Apple's recent promotion of the new ‘iPad with Wi-Fi + 4G' is misleading because it represents to Australian consumers that the product (can) connect to a 4G mobile data network in Australia when this is not the case,” the commission said in a statement. “The ACCC is seeking urgent interlocutory relief to ensure consumers are made aware of the correct technical capabilities of this device.” The commission said it would be “seeking final orders including injunctions, pecuniary penalties, corrective advertising and refunds to consumers affected.” BM ShortURL: http://goo.gl/B4noV Tags: Apple, Australia, Duped, iPad Section: Oceana, Tech
