DUBAI: Dubai has all the right dynamics – from ease of doing business and commercial networks to infrastructure, logistics and cosmopolitan outlook – which would advantageously serve renewable energy and clean-tech organizations that seek to expand their regional footprint, according to Saeed Ghubash, Director, Energy and Environment Park (ENPARK), a member of TECOM Investments' Sciences Cluster. Addressing international investors and industry experts at Globe 2012, the biennial trade fair on business and the environment held from 14-16 March in Vancouver, Canada, Ghubash reiterated Dubai's status as the “green gateway to the Middle East” and spotlighted ENPARK's role as the leading free zone in Dubai dedicated to the energy and environment companies. Describing Dubai as a ‘ready hub' that can drive the regional growth objectives of companies in the renewable energy and clean-tech sectors, Ghubash added: “ENPARK's participation at Globe 2012 is also in support of the UAE's vision of shaping a ‘Green Economy for Sustainable Development' that was unveiled on 15 January 2012. In line with this directive to build a green economy, ENPARK is working with the government of Dubai and other stakeholders to facilitate the growth of a green economy in the UAE.” Ghubash's presentation came during a special session ‘Spotlight on Dubai' on 16 March. Dubai was represented by a six-party delegation under the banner of ‘Dubai Green Economy Partnership', comprising senior representatives from Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Dubai Municipality, Road and Transport Authority, Dubai FDI, Department of Economic Development, EPIC Dubai and ENPARK. The delegation presented a consistent message to the international audience on Dubai's strategic drive to move from “Do what we do best, better” to “Apply core competencies to new areas”. Established in 2007, ENPARK is part of TECOM Investments' Sciences Cluster that also comprises the Dubai Biotechnology and Research Park (DuBiotech), the leading life-sciences park in the Middle East. Together, the two entities are committed to the consistent growth of Dubai's knowledge-based economy through promoting the life sciences as well as the energy and environment sectors. In line with its core focus, ENPARK caters to business partners in four industry sectors: renewable energy, waste management, green buildings and conventional energy. The Nucleotide Lab Complex, Dubai, where ENPARK is headquartered, houses biotech, life sciences and pharmaceutical activities ranging from research and development, diagnostic, analytical and equipment training activities. It offers core and shell lab space that can accommodate up to 160 laboratory units designed to meet Class III of bio-safety standards/ guidelines. It also features leasable warehouses that support the import-export function of business partners. ENPARK's ‘one-stop-shop' facilities streamline company registration processes including licensing, visa, traffic and postal services.
