CAIRO: The Under Secretary for Investment in the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment, Simon Nyang Anei announced that South Sudan will host an investor conference in Juba later this month. He made the announcement at a press conference in Juba, late last week. The summit is in partnership with Country Wide Investments limited (CWI), and will run from March 20-22, 2012 at the Independence Hall. He said the summit would help South Sudan showcase its investment potential to the rest of the world. The summit will bring together senior Government officials and investors to “aid development in the country”. He said the Government is taking action to safe guard development in the country,” we are working on the roads power and security. The press conference was also attended by the Director for Investment Samuel Mut Gai who asked the Governments security agencies to do more to provide security to enhance investment in the country, “Security has to do more.” The Chief Executive Officer of Country Wide Investment Limited, Christopher Higgins said his company had seen investors sign deals with governments in similar conferences elsewhere in the world, however, the three day conference will be the company's first in Africa. Special groups like the not for profit organizations are also expected to benefit from the conference which will officially be launched by President Salva Kiir Mayardit. The Republic of South Sudan became the world's newest nation last July, following a split with the Sudan, after a brutal civil war that ran since independence from Britain in 1956. South Sudan is considered one of the most under-developed areas of the world, and lacks an entire infrastructure. Roads, schools, hospitals – everything, needs development in South Sudan.
