New Delhi (dpa) – At least 12 children were killed Tuesday when their school bus plunged into a canal in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, police said. The school bus carrying more than 20 children skidded off a bridge and fell into the canal near Tungaram village in Khammam district, about 250 kilometers west of state capital Hyderabad. Twelve bodies had been found and at least 10 injured children had been rescued, police constable Masud Ahmed said over telephone. Two of them were in critical condition. All the children were aged between 5 and 10 years, Ahmed said. Rescue operations were ongoing and a crane was being used to try to lift the bus out of the canal.
