BANGKOK (dpa) – A Thai taxi driver on Friday returned 13 million baht (426,230 dollars) of gold jewelry and ornaments that had been left in his cab by a forgetful couple. Saksri Kaetsrigeow handed over a suitcase containing 8.1 kilograms of gold items to authorities at the Bangkok Police Radio Station, which had broadcast an appeal for its return Thursday. “I didn't return it sooner because I hadn't opened the bag before hearing the broadcast and was unaware that it contained gold,” Saksri told police. He added that the suitcase did not have an address or a phone number on it. The owners of the missing gold – Ekkarat Kanokwannakorn, 60, and his wife, Surat, 58 – had forgotten the bag in the front seat of Saksri's taxi Wednesday night after removing three bigger suitcases from the back of the cab. Ekkarat could not remember the taxi's license plate number but did recall the cab was pink. There are an estimated 20,000 pink cabs in Bangkok. The husband and wife, who own a jewelry shop in the north-eastern city of Ubon Rathchasima, asked the radio station to put out an appeal for the return of their gold.
