MEXICO CITY (dpa) – At least four people died in a shootout between police and alleged criminals in the northern Mexican state of Coahuila. Prosecutors said the exchange, in which another person was also injured, took place on Tuesday in the north of the city of Saltillo, about 870 kilometers from Mexico City. The Mexican Baseball League (LMB) said a bus carrying the Saraperos de Saltillo baseball team was hit several times, but that none of the players were injured. The bus was located outside the Abraham Curbelo stadium in Saltillo, some 40 meters away from where the shootout took place. “The attack was not targeting the team or the bus,” the LMB said in a statement. Saraperos is one of 16 teams taking part in the 2012 LMB season, which is set to start Sunday. More than 50,000 people have been killed in Mexico over the past five years in incidents linked to organized crime.
