Gaza (dpa) – An Israeli airstrike on a car driving in Gaza City Friday killed two Palestinians and seriously wounded a third, medical officials and witnesses said. An Israeli military spokeswoman confirmed the Israel Air Force had carried out an operation over Gaza, but gave no further details. “Ambulances brought two dead to Shiffa Hospital in Gaza City and a third person, in critical condition, after their car was struck by Israeli missiles in Gaza city,” Adham Abu Selmeya, Gaza emergency services spokesman, said. Witnesses said a blue Fiat Uno driving in a southern neighborhood of Gaza City was hit by two missiles fired from an Israeli warplane. The car was completely destroyed. The strike came a few hours after Gaza militants fired two rockets at southern Israel, bringing to 56 the number of missiles and mortars fired at Israel so far this year. Friday's rockets caused no damage or casualties, and no militia group claimed responsibility. Abu Selmeya identified the two killed as Qais Ahmed from Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, and Mahmoud Hanani from the northern West Bank city of Nablus. Hanani was released from an Israeli jail in an October 18 prisoner swap with Hamas. The Salah al-Deen Brigades, the armed wing of the pro-Hamas Popular Resistance Committees, said the two were members.
