Tokyo (dpa) – Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra assured Japanese officials Wednesday that her government was taking measures to prevent a recurrence of last year's devastating floods. Yingluck told Industry Minister Yukio Edano about water management plans including protective barriers at industrial estates, many of which house Japanese-owned factories. The premier's visit is aimed at regaining investor confidence in her country after the 2011 flooding disrupted supply chains of Japanese manufacturers, affecting trade around the world. Yingluck was scheduled to visit Natori in Miyagi prefecture Thursday to offer condolences and support for victims of the March 11 tsunami in north-eastern Japan.
