SANA'A: The European Committee and the Studies and Economical Information Center is organizing and overseeing the training of young journalists, giving them the necessary tools to learn how to cover events in disputes and catastrophes. Mr. Mustapha Nasr, the Director of the Center explained that the training session was the second to be taking place within the program, stressing that it aimed at empowering Yemen talented youth by teaching the craft of journalism in times of distress. He went on saying that the popular uprising proved the need for accurate and relevant local coverage. “By learning new techniques Yemen's journalists will fulfill the goals of journalism, which are to offer authentic information to the reader according to objective criteria in an attractive style,” said Nasr. Mr. Nasr went on further by highlighting the need for young talent to promote change through learning as they will become the country's engine and push forward social and political change. “As Malcolm X said, ‘Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today'.” The Center, in cooperation with the European Committee, targeted 120 male and female youths, across four training courses, which revolved around the promotion of journalistic core values, such as integrity and objectivity when dealing with violent events.
