SAN FRANCISCO (dpa): Yahoo is set for a major restructuring that will include thousands of layoffs, as new CEO Scott Thompson attempts to revitalize the struggling web pioneer, according to the Wall Street Journal's All Things Digital blog, on Monday. While Yahoo still controls many of the world's most popular websites its share of online advertising is in a freefall due to the rise of competitors such as Google and Facebook. The company appointed Thompson in January to try to turn things around and he is now expected to roll thousands of heads at Yahoo. The major cuts will come in the company's large products organization and other areas, including public relations and marketing, research, marginal businesses and weaker regional efforts. “It's going to be deep,” the report quoted one manager as saying. The company currently has 14,100 people on its payroll and recently hired Boston Consulting Group to help focus the company on “growth” initiatives and determine the best path for Yahoo going forward, the report said. The changes could be announced as early as the end of the month, the report said. BM ShortURL: http://goo.gl/PksmL Tags: To Cut Jobs, Yahoo Section: Business, Latest News, Tech
