CAIRO: Egypt member of Parliament Anwar al-Belkimi was fired from his party on Saturday, the ultra-conservative al-Nour party, after it was proven he was at a local hospital in Giza getting a nose job, while he says he was mugged at the Cairo-Alexandria highway. His fate, under the dome of the parliament still hangs in the balance, after Giza's general attorney sent the speaker of parliament Saad al-Katatny a memo asking him to revoke Belkimi's parliament membership and take away his immunity, so he could face trial if necessary. The high committee of the party sent also sent a memo to Katatny asking him to announce his parliament membership has been voided. The party spokesman Nader Bakar said on Saturday that the party refuses to be “demonized” over the actions of one person and that the party will “handle such lies and deception with maximum measures, so it becomes an example for those who attempt to cheat.” The hospital manager came out telling the press last week that the MP was a guest at his hospital and he had undergone a nose job, just a few hours before he reported to police that he was assaulted and the sum of 100,000 Egyptian pounds was stolen from his car last Tuesday. Belkimi still insists on his innocence, saying he was assaulted on the road and taken to a hospital to be treated. The MP said a family was also present at the hospital and called on the family to step forward and clear his name. The investigation is still ongoing to look into if the MP lied about being attacked and simply waited it out in the operation room, beautifying his nose, or if in fact he was attacked and was admitted to the hospital and the operation was part of reconstruction.
