CAIRO: According to Saudi Interior Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki, authorities arrested 11 people attempting to smuggle a half ton of hashish into Saudi Arabia from Iran. He added that the 11 criminals , six Pakistanis and five Iranians, made an attempt to enter the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia across the eastern border. Preliminary investigations appear to indicate that the men are part of a criminal network specializing in drug-trafficking out of Iran. Al-Turki said the smugglers were closely-observed and followed when they entered the Kingdom's territorial waters and were apprehended trying to deliver their hashish. He said that although Kingdom has previously confiscated drugs on the eastern shores, and that the smugglers have confessed that the drugs were coming from Iran. Drug trafficking is punishable by death in Saudi Arabia—and the preferred method is a public beheading, followed by crucifixion.
