SANA'A: HOOD, Yemen's most prominent human rights organization called on President Abdu Rabbo Mansour Hadi to order the release of hundreds of political prisoners arrested by the Republican Guards and the Central Security Forces over the course of the popular uprising, for participating in the demonstrations demanding the ouster of President Ali Abdullah Saleh. According to the organization, those men and women are held in private prisons, under the direct control of Ahmed Ali Abdullah Saleh and Yehia Mohamed Saleh, the son and nephew of former President Saleh. “The detainees are being held outside the law since no warrant or charges were brought against them. Moreover we have reasons to believe that they are subjected to inhuman treatments. We need this to change immediately,” said a member of HOOD to Bikyamasr.com. HOOD is now asking President Hadi to set up a special committee composed of judges, military personnel and human rights activists as to organize the release of the detainees. Moreover, HOOD is currently working with Human Rights Minister Hooria Mashour at eradicating from Yemen the problem posed by private jails. “Hundreds of people are languishing in dark prison cells in unknown locations under the direct supervision of the Republican Guards and the Central Security Forces without ever entering the normal judiciary system. These detainees deserve to be treated fairly and according to the rule of law,” said the minister. So far HOOD handed a file to President Hadi that contains over 190 names. But if HOOD is concentrating its efforts on releasing those who were abducted by the regime for daring question its legitimacy, Yemen's main opposition block, the JMP was also found guilty of such practices, with revolutionaries accusing al-Islah, Yemen's Islamic party, of incarcerating all those who opposed their political vision, with the well-known al-Ahmar family putting its many jails at the disposal of the party.
