Abuja (dpa) – At least 14 people have been killed in a gun attack on a police station in northern Nigeria, state television said Saturday. Gunmen carrying explosives attacked the station in the city of Gombe late Friday, according to police official Habu Dawaki. Witnesses said they saw bodies littering the police station. Dawaki told dpa that a curfew is now in place in the city. Gombe was hit last month by a church attack which left six people dead. Nobody has claimed responsibility for the latest attack, but it bears the hallmarks of the radical Islamist group Boko Haram. The sect has increasingly been targeting police stations and army barracks to protest the arrest of its members who were detained by security forces.
