CAIRO: The head of Egypt's Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood, Mohamed Morsi, said on Wednesday that the next president of Egypt must “embrace the same religion of the majority of the Egyptian nation and be committed to the Islamic approach,” stressing that his party will have no candidate in the upcoming presidential election. He added that the party did not demand the Cabinet of Kamal el-Ganzouri to resign, but he pointed out that the government is “unable to solve the problems of citizens,” adding that the party “is ready to take responsibility of forming a national consensus government. “The parliamentary majority must now assume its responsibility and form a government,” he said. He also stressed that the Constitutional Assembly will represent all spectra of Egyptian society, Muslims and Christians and different political forces and ensured the representation of women and Coptic Christians. Egypt is to hold presidential elections in early summer and is to draft a new constitution that will detail how power is shared in the country, one year on from an uprising that ousted President Hosni Mubarak.
