CAIRO: Egypt announced on Sunday the terms a presidential nominee should abide to and the requirement needed to apply for the bid in press conference in Cairo. Farouk Soltan, the head of the Presidential Elections Committee for 2012 said the needed documents must be submitted beginning March 10. The presidential hopefuls will have to acquire the signature of at least 30 parliament members from both houses on one form and not less than 30,000 signatures from citizens from at least 15 governorates. From each governorate there must be not less than a 1000 signatures. The information of those who will sign should be presented separately on a cd or a dvd, according to Soltan. The presidential hopeful will have to prove that they are Egyptian, from Egyptian parents and their parents never held another citizenship. Each candidate will have to present their birth certificate, their criminal record and proof that they are born to Egyptian parents. Egypt's presidential hopefuls will also have to prove that their spouse is Egyptian and that they finished the compulsory army training if they are males. Soltan affirmed that the committee's work is fully independent and no one or no power has the right to intervene in their decision. He also added that the door is open to any Egyptian who the terms apply to. It is worth noting that the committee's decisions cannot be appealed according to statute 28 of the constitutional announcement. The committee will have the final say in everything related to the elections, from announcing the nomination day to the end of the process and everything in between.
