Dubai (dpa) – Dubai-based club Al Wasl Saturday dismissed reports of the sacking of coach Diego Maradona, saying it has “confidence” in the Argentine football legend. The club urged in a statement the media not to circulate “rumors or reports about the club without verifying them.” The statement was prompted by media reports that Maradona may be sacked or resign after Al Wasl suffered a 4-2 drubbing by their rivals Ajman in the Professionals League competition on Wednesday. “This news is baseless,” said the club. Maradona is now in Britain visiting his grandson and is expected back in Dubai on Monday. He has recently threatened to quit coaching the team over a restrictive budget for transfers. “Next season I will not accept a small budget. We need a big budget to give us a boost and added value to make us competitive. Without this, I may be forced to submit my resignation to the chairman,” Maradona said in Dubai earlier in February. Maradona has been coaching Al Wasl since May under a two-year contract. BM ShortURL: http://goo.gl/Da2jO Tags: Coach, Maradona, UAE Section: Football, United Arab Emirates
