CAIRO: Egypt's al-Wafd Party chief Sayyed Badawi has accused Arab and foreign countries of transferring funds of around $300 million to Egypt to “disrupt the democratic process and to bring about chaos.” He said during his meeting with the former Italian Prime Minister Massimo D'Alema and Claudio Pacifico, the Italian Ambassador to Cairo, that he believes it is better for Egypt at the present stage that the “constitution contain a semi-presidential system in the sense that it would adopt a parliamentary system tending toward a presidential one.” Badawi said that the upcoming Egyptian constitution will “be based on the document of Al-Azhar and the Democratic Alliance document (the coalition of political parties led by the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party and the al-Wafd Party),” which, he said “was approved by national political forces after the document was signed by 43 political parties including the FJP [and] Al Nour,” adding that there are “no concerns raised about the constitution.” For his part, the Italian Ambassador pointed out the ongoing crisis happening in Egypt, stressing his country's “support for the current democratic process in Egypt in terms of friendship between Egypt and Italy and non-interference in the internal affairs of Egypt.” “We are confident that revolutions often result in chaos, but there will come the moment where stability will be realized,” Pacifico said during the meeting, stressing his commitment to meet with leaders of the al-Wafd Party as the “protector and defender of the civil state and the rights and freedoms.” BM ShortURL: http://goo.gl/A3v1d Tags: featured, Italy, Money, Politics, Wafd Section: Egypt, Latest News
