CAIRO: Egypt youth movement 6th of April has called on parliament to withdraw confidence in the cabinet of Prime Minister Kamal el-Ganzouri in response to violent clashes in downtown Cairo. The popular group demanded an immediate transfer of power to the elected civilian authority and the removal of the military junta. It comes as injuries and deaths continue to be reported from central Cairo. Police into the night were firing tear gas and reportedly using live ammunition to disperse protesters calling for the end of the military's rule in the country. At least 9 people have been killed, but activists say the number could be much higher. The movement called for, in a statement issued on Saturday, for “the formation of a commission of inquiry that has judicial status under the supervision of the People's Assembly, to be chaired by counselor Zakaria Abdul Aziz, to inquire into the massacre, and called for holding the culprits of the incidents responsible, and the dismissal of the government of Ganzouri, and assign the People's Assembly to form an emergency government and open the doors for presidential elections after the completion of the Shura Council elections directly with the amendment of the law of flawed presidential elections,” which gives full authority to the committee supervising the elections of any appeals in accordance with Article 28 of the Constitutional Declaration.
