CAIRO: The Youth Committee of the Kefaya activist movement has called upon Egypt's interim ruling military government to immediately hand over power to the newly elected parliament. The Committee has presented three options for an immediate power transfer. First, the group proposed that presidential powers be given to the newly elected Speaker of the People's Assembly, Mohamed Saad El-Katatni, who would act as president until a presidential election takes place within 60 days. As a second option, they suggest the the military rulers cede power to a national emergency government, to be elected by the People's Assembly, which would rule the country until elections take place. Finally, they suggested that parliament could choose a temporary president to rule until elections are held. The movement has demanded that any civilian authority must complete the goals of the revolution, try those responsible for corruption and violence perpetuated by the former regime, recover stolen funds, set a minimum and maximum wage, stop gas exports to Israel, bring an end to military trials for civilians and abolish the state of emergency law. Mohammed Abdul-Aziz, a spokesperson for the youth movement, said that he will submit the group's proposal to the new members of parliament. According to the group's statement, Egypt's newly elected parliament is the only legitimate governing body in the country.
