CAIRO: As the second session of Egypt's newly elected parliament adjourned today, headed by Dr. Mohamed Saad Katatni, the President of the Council, members of parliament called for the public execution of former President Hosni Mubarak. MP Hamdi Mohamed Ismail said that the first objective of the new People's Council should be to recover the lost rights of the Egyptian citizen, which have been stepped on for many years. Ismail also demanded that the Council work toward recovering the rights of the martyrs of the revolution, a task which the body has been entrusted to deal with. In turn, MP Adel Sha'alan, a member of the Egyptian Citizen Party, questioned the amount of monetary compensation offered to the families of the martyrs. He also asked how many families had actually received the money. Sha'alan said that “if it were not for the blood of the martyrs, (he) would not have been in this Council today,” rejecting a government report on the martyrs and victims of the revolution, which was presented to parliament today. Mubarak and six of his top aids continue to stand trial for ordering the execution of peaceful protesters during the January 25 uprisings that ousted his regime last year.
