CAIRO: The Iranian government on Tuesday denied they had sent weapons and military equipment to the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad, who continues to use violent force to crackdown on protests in the country. The foreign ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast told reporters that “the French remarks are baseless and without any proof,” in reference to France's accusations that Tehran had sent weapons to Damascus. It comes only days after a Russia arms shipment was confiscated en route to Syria. The spokesman said that the statement made his French counterpart Romain Nadal in an online press briefing on Monday were baseless. Nadal said that UN experts had discovered “several cases of violations of the embargo on arms destined for or coming from Iran…” The experts had informed the UN Security Council of the violations of Security Council resolutions 1747 et 1929, Nadal added. Mehmanparast accused the French government of raising politically motivated charges against Iran without presenting any proof. ** with dpa BM ShortURL: http://goo.gl/kMzmZ Tags: Assad, France, Weapons Section: Iran, Latest News, Syria
