Jerusalem (dpa) – A right-wing Israeli lawmaker was suspended Tuesday from parliamentary activity for one month, a day after she threw a cup of water in the face of an Arab-Israeli political rival. Anastasia Michaeli, of the ultra-nationalist Israel Beiteinu faction, was summoned before the parliament's ethics committee, after a formal complaint was lodged against her by the centre-left Labour Party of Ghaled Majadele, as well as by the House speaker. Majadele was speaking during a meeting of the Knesset Education Committee when he was interrupted by Michaeli. He angrily told her to “shut up,” and continued talking. Michaeli gathered her papers and appeared to be leaving the room when she paused, picked a bottle of mineral water off the table, filled a glass, and threw its contents in Majadele's face, before storming out. She first defended her action, but after wall-to-wall criticism, overnight issued an apology. Michaeli, 36, has previously been reprimanded by parliament, after she tried physically to interrupt a plenum speech by Hanin Zoabi, an Arab-Israeli legislator who participated in a 2010 aid flotilla to the Gaza Strip. Ten Turkish nationals were killed when Israeli forces stormed the ships. BM ShortURL: http://goo.gl/r8C6w Tags: Anastasia Michaeli, Israel, Knesset Section: Palestine, Women
