Sydney (dpa) – Australian women with breast implants made by French company Poly Implant Prothese (PIP) were Saturday urged to ring an information hotline if they feared for their health. But officials reiterated their view that PIP implants were no more liable to rupture than other implants. Acting Health Minister Nicola Roxon said that “current advice is that there's no particular additional risk.” Last week Therapeutic Goods Administration chief Rohan Hammett declared there was “no evidence of increased rupture rate for PIP implants in this country.” French, German and Czech authorities have recommended the removal of PIP implants. Australian authorities are sticking with their British counterparts, who insist PIP rupture rates are the same as for other implants.
