Manama, Bahrain (dpa) – Two prominent Bahraini human rights activists were injured Friday night when police dispersed a protest in the capital Manama against illegal detentions. Nabeel Rajab, an Ion Ratiu Democracy 2011 award recipient and head of Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR), sustained a face injury after being hit with a sound-grenade. Seyyed Yousif al-Muhafda, which heads monitoring and follow-up at BCHR, sustained minor injuries to the leg and hand as a result of also being hit with sound-grenades. Activist and blogger Zainab al-Khawaja, daughter of jailed and human-rights activist Abdulhadi al-Khawaja who is serving life in prison, was pepper-sprayed by police during the same incident. Activists claim Rajab was beaten by police after being hit with the grenade. Rajab, who works closely with the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and Human Rights Watch (HRW), was rushed to hospital. According to activists his condition was stable. The Ministry of Interior claimed on its official twitter account that “police found him lying on the ground after dispersing an unauthorized march.” BM ShortURL: http://goo.gl/6l763 Tags: Activists, Injured, Uprising Section: Bahrain, Human Rights, Latest News
