Peshawar, Pakistan (dpa) – The Taliban said Thursday they had executed 15 members of the security forces kidnapped around two weeks ago in north-western Pakistan. The bodies had been dumped in North Waziristan, one of the seven tribal districts on the Afghan border where insurgents are based, Taliban spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan told reporters by telephone. The men were kidnapped on December 23 when several dozen militants attacked a base of the Frontier Constabulary police force around 35 kilometers north of Tank in the district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Four of the captives died in transit, and another succumbed to his injuries later on. Four others managed to escape. Ehsan said the executions were to avenge a security operation in a nearby tribal area last week which killed a Taliban commander and, according to militant claims, captured three of his female relatives.
