Amman (dpa) – Talks began in Amman Tuesday aimed a reviving Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations which broke down almost 16 months ago. Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh met with Tony Blair, the envoy of the Quartet of Middle East mediators – the United States, European Union, United Nations and Russia – and other Quartet representatives, government sources said. Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat and Israeli envoy Yitzhak Molcho were scheduled to join the meeting at the Jordanian Foreign Ministry later. It is their first face-to-face encounter since September 2010, when the Palestinian Authority withdrew from the negotiations after Israel did not extend a 10-month settlement freeze.
