CAIRO: Security was again tight at the Police Academy where the trial of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak was again held on Monday. Outside the courtroom, families of those who were killed during the 18 days of protest that ousted the 83-year-old dictator were hopeful that the trial, delayed for the past three months, would begin in earnest once more. Many of the scores of protesters joining the families held Egyptian flags and chanted against the former Egyptian leader. In between the anti-Mubarak and pro-Mubarak supporters were lines of police, who were again attempting to keep the calm outside the trial where sporadic violence has ensued since the trial began on August 3. In previous court dates, supporters of the ousted dictator have caused havoc by attacking those who demand justice for the 83-year-old Mubarak, his sons and cronies. On Monday, the Mustafa family was again present, and was looking forward to seeing evidence against the man they accuse of killing one of their sons during the uprising last year. “We are definitely believing that he will be convicted and stand for his crimes against Egyptians. He is a bad man,” the older brother Ahmed – his brother was killed in the uprising – told Bikyamasr.com. At least 20 armored cars and 30 military vehicles are to be used to safely transfer Mubarak and his two sons, Alaa and Gamal, to the courtroom, and will remain on guard throughout the session. Mubarak is being tried on charges of ordering the killing of around 1,000 people during the revolt that eventually toppled him in February. Ousted Interior Minister Habib al-Adli and 6 former security aides face the same charges. Mubarak and his two sons are also accused of corruption. All defendants pleaded not guilty when the trial started on August 3. BM ShortURL: http://goo.gl/p4wcT Tags: featured, Hosni Mubarak, Police Academy, Trial, Victims Section: Egypt, Latest News
