Saudi Arabia, Libya agree to exchange ambassadors

Riyadh (dpa)- Saudi Arabia and Libya agreed Sunday to resume ambassadorial ties after seven years of diplomatic strain, the state Saudi news agency reported.
The agreement comes months after the overthrow of Libyan leader Muammer Gaddafi, who had fallen out with the Saudi rulers in his final years.
Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal Sunday met with an envoy of Libya's interim ruling National Transitional Council, Mustafa Abdel Jalil.
The Saudi news agency quoted the Saudi official as announcing the resumption of bilateral ties and the return of a Saudi ambassador to Tripoli.
In late 2004, Saudi Arabia expelled the Libyan envoy and recalled its ambassador from Tripoli after reports about an alleged Libyan plot to kill the then Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah, who is now the kingdom's ruler.
