Brussels (dpa) – The European Union reacted cautiously on Saturday to Iran's declaration that it was ready to resume talks with world powers about its contested nuclear programs. EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton had written in October to Iran's chief nuclear negotiator Saeid Jalili and had not yet received a response, a spokesman said in Brussels. “We continue to pursue our twin-track approach and are open for meaningful discussions on confidence-building measures, without preconditions from the Iranian side,” the spokesman said. Ashton had previously made this position clear in statements on behalf of the so-called E3+3 group negotiating with Iran, comprising Britain, France and Germany, plus the US, Russia and China, her spokesman added.
