Kabul (dpa) – A roadside bomb struck a police vehicle in southern Afghanistan, killing at least 10 policemen while elsewhere a gunman in Afghan army uniform shot dead two NATO soldiers, officials said Thursday. In the southern province of Helmand, a local police vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb on Thursday in Nad Ali district, killing 10 police officers and injuring one other, the provincial governor's office said in a statement. “The victims were traveling to a nearby police training camp where they were receiving training as a roadside bomb went off,” it said. Taliban militants rely on the use of roadside bombs as part of their decade-long insurgency. In eastern Afghanistan, a man wearing a national army uniform shot dead two foreign soldiers on Thursday, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said in a statement. “ISAF is investigating the incident,” it said, without giving further details about the shooting. In June, a classified military study said the killing of foreign soldiers by Afghan troops was turning into a “rapidly growing systemic threat” that could undermine the entire war effort.
