Madrid (dpa) – Madrid remains committed to its bid to host the 2020 summer Olympics Games despite the need to make savings, the city's new mayor said Tuesday. Ana Botella said after being sworn in that Madrid was renewing its commitment to bid for the Games. “To accomplish it, no new spending is needed until the International Olympic Committee's decision, because we have already built 80 per cent of the necessary infrastructure,” she said. Madrid and five other candidate cities – Baku, Doha, Istanbul, Rome and Tokyo – are due to submit their 2020 Games plans by February 25 to the IOC. It will vote on the host city in September 2013.
