A wish list for the holidays with an Egyptian twist
Published in Bikya Masr on 15 - 12 - 2011

Christmas is just around the corner and everybody is looking for the perfect gift. The best way to decide between so many ideas is to stop for a second and write a wish list. Here are some ideas on what you might like to find under your tree on Christmas Day:
Shalaby's latest book
1. Books make always excellent Christmas gifts. There are some interesting titles this December, but the one I crave the most is Khairy Shalaby's last book, The Time-Travel of the Man Who Sold Pickles and Sweets: A Modern Arabic Novel, recently translated into English.
Some other attractive titles are Egypt in the era of Hosni Mubarak: 1981-2011 by Galal Amin and Love in the Kingdom of Oil by Nawaal el Saadawi.
2. I absolutely love Ellie Saabdesigns. So if you want to make your Christmas celebrations unforgettable, it is a perfect go to designer. Obviously, most of the

dresses will be unattainable for any ordinary person, but we can always try to find similar styles at a more affordable price.
3. This digital update of the old Polaroid instant camera will make the best present for photography lovers. It prints 7 mega pixels in less than 40 seconds. A classic back in fashion.
4. Another Christmas caprice is this beautiful Stella McCartney round plexiglass box clutch. It is very original and practical, suitable for all ages.

Florence & the Machine
5. Music is a must-have Christmas gift. A great option for this Christmas are Florence and the Machine's Ceremonials. An incredibly powerful album. Highly recommended!
6. Perfume is certainly one of the best presents for both men and women. For ladies, I suggest the latest Loewe's fragrance, I Loewe You Tonight, very fresh and sweet. The package is also really unique.
A good choice for men is La Nuit De L'Homme by Yves Saint Laurent. It has a very intense and sophisticated fragance th

at will not go unnoticed.
7. If you are looking for a present for someone who loves travelling there are some very good ideas that person will love. For instance, you can get tickets for two people to an interesting destination anywhere in the world! Another appealing option is to buy a “package” with the tickets and the price of the hotel included.
8. Nobody can spend Christmas time without having some sweets in the house! Lucky us, in Cairo we can find a large selection of shops with the best Halaweyat, cookies, waffles and cupcakes. Find your nearest store and treat yourself!
Enjoy the gifts and Merry Christmas everyone!
