CAIRO: Resigned Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf wrote an apology on his Facebook page for the government's performance during the transitional period in the country following the January uprising that toppled the former regime. “I would like to apologize to all those who found the government under my lead disappointing,” Sharaf wrote on Sunday. “The circumstances that i worked with were harder than all expectations,” he described the months he spent at his position. Sharaf was hailed from the Tahrir Square protesters and was dubbed as the “prime minister of the revolution,” and he repeated that he came from Tahrir and to realize the goals of the revolution. However, his cabinet showed weakness in front of the military ruling council that was involved heavily in the work of the government. Protests and bloodshed didn't stop in the following months in his assignment, where major police and protester confrontations left dozens dead and thousands injured. The resignation of the government followed a wave of mass protests that started on November 19. The 6 days of clashes between protesters and police left at least 70 dead and over 3,000 wounded. The military council assigned Kamal al-Ganzoury to follow as Egypt's new prime miniter during the transitional period. The decision was condemned by activists and others as Ganzoury held the same position under ousted president Hosni Mubarak, who is currently in jail while his trial on ordering the killing of protesters moves forward.
