CAIRO: Children are certain to be happy about the announcement by interim Prime Minister Essam Sharaf on Wednesday, saying schools in the country will be suspended during the three-week voting process. According to Sharaf, in a statement released by the Cabinet late Wednesday, schools across the country will be suspended throughout the voting process in order to ensure students' safety. With millions of Egyptians expected to head to the polls on November 28 and two consecutive weeks after, violence is a large concern for the government. The move to suspend classes however, has a number of candidates uneasy. Shaheer Ishak, a candidate from the Egypt Freedom Party, told Bikyamasr.com recently that he believed that if a large number of people go and vote, the likelihood of violence is small. “If there are large numbers of people, it will be unlikely we see any violence,” Ishak said. But the Cabinet could believe differently. The move will leave students being forced to make up the extra time at the end of the term and means less holiday for students across Egypt. BM
