SANA'A: As citizens in Yemen learned of the massacre that was taking place in the once restive city of Taiz, demonstrators in several of the country's major cities decided to stage a candle march in protest of the violent crackdown, calling on Benomar, the UN envoy currently in the capital, to take a stronger stance against President Ali Abdallah Saleh. Tens of thousands of demonstrators poured into the streets of Sana'a in the north and Aden in the south, manifesting their solidarity towards their fellow citizens in Taiz, as they say they wanted to honor their “courage and determination.” As reports continue to come through from the southern city of Taiz, residents are reporting that the town's main hospital is now under heavy shelling from the government forces. With injured continuing to stream through the doors, the sound of shells exploding nearby is getting dangerously closer. “No matter what happen we will stay until the bitter end,” said a voluntary nurse. A young girl who was brought on a stretcher was heard screaming that she did not want to die. Another boy, whose father was carrying him on his shoulder, was bleeding so profusely from his head that he passed out, leaving many to believe he had taken his last breath. Miraculously the boy survived. As Yemen is reaching a new high of violence and bloodshed, Yemenis are wondering if it will ever end, all left fearful of what tomorrow may bring. BM
