CAIRO: A new partnership has been initiated between Sybase 365 and Qatar Telecom (QTEL). Sybase 365 will provide its mobile wallet (mWallet) software to enable Qtel's latest ‘Mobile Money' service. Sybase 365 is a mobile messaging and mobile commerce services provider. “Today's global economy is becoming a mobile economy with consumers requiring convenient access to transaction channels anytime, anywhere,” said Matthew Talbot, senior vice president, mCommerce, Sybase 365. “Our partnership with the Qtel Group to provide a leading mWallet solution is pioneering the way customers interact with their financial institutions and communities.” The Qtel Mobile Money service will provide customers with the ability to use mobile devices to transfer money, recharge phone credit and make payments both domestically and internationally. Qtel has said the Mobile Money service will support all mobile channels, including SMS messaging, mobile browser and downloadable clients on any mobile device with any currency. Qtel has a solid client base throughout the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) markets. A large portion of the MENA market is comprised of foreign workers and residents which constantly transfer funds overseas, according to Sybase 365. Apparently, many of these workers have in the past relied on money transfer kiosks to transfer their wealth. BM
