FIFA released the list for the Ballon d'Or on Tuesday and it contained few surprises. Up until last year the Ballon d'Or had been awarded by France Football Magazine to the best European based football player. In 2010, the trophy was combined with FIFA's World Player of the Year and renamed the FIFA Ballon d'Or. This year's list reads like the Barcelona team sheet with 8 of the twenty-three players coming from the Catalan side. The list is led by reigning two-time winner Lionel Messi, along with 2008 winner Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid. If Messi wins the award again he will be the 4th player in history to win the trophy three times, joining such greats as Johan Cruyff, Michel Platini, and Marco van Basten. Journalists, national coaches and national captains will all vote for the winner of the FIFA Ballon D'Or award from this list of twenty three players and the award will be given at the FIFA Ballon d'Or Gala on January 9, 2012 in Zurich, Switzerland. List of Players: Sergio Agüero (Argentina/Manchester City), Erica Abidal (France/Barcelona), Karim Benzema (France/Real Madrid), Iker Casillas (Spain/Real Madrid), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal/Real Madrid), Dani Alves (Brazil/Barcelona), Samuel Eto'o (Cameroon/ Anzhi Makhachkala), Cesc Fabregas (Spain/Barcelona), Diego Forlan (Uruguay/Inter), Andres Iniesta (Spain/Barcelona), Lionel Messi (Argentina/Barcelona), Thomas Müller (Germany/ Bayern Munich), Nani (Portugal/Manchester United), Neymar (Brazil/Santos), Mesut Özil (Germany/Real Madrid), Gerard Pique (Spain/Barcelona), Wayne Rooney (England/Manchester United), Bastian Schweinsteiger (Germany/Bayern Munich), Wesley Sneijder (Netherlands/Inter), Luis Suarez (Uruguay/Liverpool), David Villa (Spain/Barcelona), Xabi Alonso (Spain/Real Madrid), Xavi (Spain/Barcelona) BM
