LAGOS: Nigeria and Panasonic are teaming up to produce eco-friendly hoome appliances and other living needs in the country in order to combat waste and environmental practices seen as detrimental to the country's ecosystems. Recently, Panasonic unveiled a new Home Energy Management System (HEMS) at its exhibition for Middle East and Africa at GITEX, which has just ended. Masao Motoki, Director, System Sales and Marketing Group of Panasonic Marketing Middle East said the company is “demonstrating efficient use of energy by promoting widespread use of energy-saving devices and proposing new solutions that integrate measures for energy creation, storage and management.” “Panasonic is strongly committed to conserving the environment,” he said. The company hopes that the new initiative, doubled with its bolstering of products to combat environmental issues in the region, will help build Nigeria as a leading eco-friendly destination. “As a global leader in the electronics industry, it is our duty to ensure a sustainable future, and the home energy management system will help us dramatically reduce the negative impact we are having on our natural world,” Motoki said. “With this new concept, we are looking to change the mindset of the current generation to be more energy efficient and conscious of our natural world. We have to act now to give our planet a fighting chance for the future,” added Motoki. BM
