CAIRO: A video posted by activists online October 13, shows military soldiers vandalizing civilians' cars parked outside of the state television and radio building, or Maspero. The video shows uniformed soldiers chasing protesters and smashing parked cars, with some alarms going off in the video, in clear contradiction to the ruling military council, which accused Coptic Christian protesters being behind the vandalizing of vehicles. The soldiers in the videos looked in a state of chaos as they smashed whatever was in their way. The video is the latest in a series of online documentations showing the events of October 9, where at least 26 protesters were killed when the military guarding the building opened fire and ran over scores of them with armored vehicles. Another recent video, aired by Euronews, shows an armored car running over scores of protesters who were too slow to move. Leading members of the ruling military council recently denied attacking the protesters at a press conference on Wednesday, saying that the Christians were armed with “swords, knives and Molotov bottles.” Protesters strongly denied the military's allegations, saying the protest was completely peaceful and adding that whole families with many women and children were part of march that began in the residential area of Shubra. They said the military attack was “unprovoked.” BM
