CAIRO: In a bold move, a sport institute in Ismailia is launching an new project to promote the environment and social participation through planting one million trees across the country. General Manager of the Youth and Sport Institute in Ismailia Foad Abdel Baqy said his institute agreed to implement the Million Trees project across the country, in coordination with the directorate of youth, sport and local units in the governorate. The goal of the project is to increase the idea of “loyalty” where people live and to bolster local solidarity, he added. The project includes 20 villages: Nafesha, Abu Atwa, Abu Balah, Tomson, El Tal el-Kabir, Kafr el-Sheikh, El Beghada, Abu Khaleefa, El Bahteeny, Shohadaa el-Oboor, El Marwa, Ebr el-Sayed, El Mahsama el-Kadeema, Abu Greesh, El Werwara, El Kantara Gharb, El Kantara Sharq, Serabyoum, Fanara. The inaugural planting is set to begin on Thursday as Egypt celebrates the October 6 national holiday. Environmental issues in Egypt are often forgotten and few organizations focus on educating the younger generation on the importance of maintaining a clean environment. Similar projects have been started and implemented in New York, London and elsewhere across the world. BM
